OUR MISSION

Thousands of dollars are put towards college, but often without students even knowing what it is they want to do, what they are gifted for, and how their faith relates to the work they do.

COMPASS was created by a team from Lakeside Christian Church in Akron, OH that wanted to help guide our teens and young adults on their journey of discovering these things. COMPASS aims to equip families by increasing their financial literacy (change in knowledge), discover their vocational fit (change in behavior), and minimize the accumulation of debt in college (change in conditions). We have created this website to make the content of the COMPASS class freely available for individuals, youth ministries, and local churches. While the curriculum is mainly intended for teenagers and young adults, anyone can benefit from the principles it presents - whether you're looking to change careers, or simply better understand the relationship between faith and work. We have worked to avoid the false dichotomy of the sacred and secular, as well as the false dichotomies of evangelism and justice, compassion and wealth creation, personal piety and public engagement, science and faith.

The integration of faith, work, and economics is woven throughout the whole of sacred Scripture. COMPASS draws upon creation in Genesis, the Law, the Prophets, Wisdom, Gospels, Epistles, and Revelation to show the goodness of God’s original plan, the corruption brought through sin, and the purpose of Christ to redeem and restore God’s original purposes for humanity.

We hope this is a helpful resource to you.
