JEREMY - PODIATRIST
1. How would you describe your work?
I am a podiatrist (foot and ankle surgeon). Daily, in clinic, I diagnose pathology of the lower extremity including derm, musculoskeletal, nervous, and vascular. Once diagnosed I come up with a conservative treatment plan which is nonsurgical in nature. If conservative modalities don’t help I turn to surgical remedies ranging from amputations to fixing fractures, to lengthening limbs. Underlying all of that, educating patients on their disease and treatment plans is of the utmost importance.
2. What are some ways that your work is a reflection of God?
Christ was The Great Physician, and as one who gets the opportunity to heal I get the chance to see Christ’s power through healing.
3. How does your work provide insight into the brokenness of this world?
In physical pain and suffering it is easy to see sin, and in seeing God’s healing in our bodies it reminds me of the redemption story. In some cases, physical ailments are the direct result of sinful behavior. An example would be chronic alcoholism leading to neuropathy which results in chronic wounds, infected bones, and eventual amputation.
4. Jesus commands us to “love our neighbors as ourselves”. How does your work function as an opportunity to love and serve others?
There is never a lack of patients who are in need of help and show up at my door which is in essence a constant stream of people who need love and grace. The feet are not the most glamorous parts of the body, but God has given me the opportunity to care for them. This sometimes means continual care for those who refuse to live healthy lifestyles.
